University of Nottingham, Hockey Team Caps
We’ve recently had the pleasure of helping the University of Nottingham Hockey Club re-engage with their heritage.
Talking with Jack Ieuan Tranter, President of the club,
“We felt that we had become disconnected with our Alumni and wanted to put something in place to reinstate that connection. We went to the university library and asked for any archive materials that were held in regards to the hockey club. We were given a box containing various items but were really taken with some old caps. There was a photo from 1917 and 3 caps dating from 1917 to 1921. We had no idea when the caps were last awarded but we thought that it would be a great tradition to restart.”
The cap itself is slightly unusual, it’s an honour cap but without a peak. Our cap designers worked from the attached images to produce a digital design concept which Jack approved prior to production.
The caps are totally hand made with embroidery painstakingly done in metal bullion wires. The finished caps are made from the finest velvet, lined in gold satin with bullion wired tassel and cord.
“The guys that have seen them are really impressed the caps, we’ll be handing them out at our summer ball in June. We’re looking to be repeating this every year. These caps will be awarded to every player in the hockey club in their final year.”
